I had a chance to catch up with the trio and get some insight on their work styles, influences and favourite beverage.
Laurent (L), Dominik (D) and Dany (Da) = Jackin With The Drums
CRLV : Hey chaps, i'm intrigued, being part of a trio before, I know how it differs from solo projects, how do you guys share the work load, is it equal or do you all have individual roles?
Laurent: Yeah, I think that everyone has his own role. Dany is most of the time the main producer, he comes with the drumsets and an idea. Domi and I, we arrange it then, we fix it. It doesn't mean that we aren't able to produce. For example Vulcan was the result of Domi and me.
Domi makes our mixtapes and do also the publicity stuff. And I do the main part of the publicity and contacts stuff. I search the labels, get in touch with producers and blogs,....
Dominik: Laurent already said it all.
Da: Agree
CRLV: When/how did you form? was there one track or record that got you into electronic music?
L: We form out of BGPRJCT. This was a quartet. With this project we were more into trash and fidget electro. And then we made a break. We couldn't stop after that, but our music taste changed, we were fed up by this music style. It`s repetitive. So we turned into the techno scene with a touch of electro.
I don't really remember the first contact with electronic music. I think it was a track of Daft Punk.
D: The moment I really got an insight in the electronic music scene, was in April 2007 (at that moment it was still a bit underground) at a party in Brussels and the djs played fidget tracks and nearly all tracks of croockers and Boys Noize. then it began! And I'll never forget Daft Punk at Pukkelpop Festival in 2006, this was more than Epic!
But the first time I got into electronic music was with 14 or 15 thanks to MTV :)
Da: The first time I get in touch with electronic music was a show with DJ Furax in 2004. Haha. Only 2 years later (2006), I felt in love into the electronic music. It was the show of Technasia (live) which turns me into the music of Techno and Tech House.
CRLV: What is your current production/live setup?
L: We built our own music studio and produce with a MacBook Pro, 2 x Yamaha HS 80, Apollo [Universal Audio], 1 midi keyboard and as interface we use Ableton.
D: And we use Machine from Native Instruments as Drummachine
Da: We also bought Komplete 6, 7 and 8 from NI and we use a lot of it
CRLV: You've had a busy 2012, what was your highlight?
L: that we signed on Tuff' Em Up! Records
D: That we released our first EP!
Da: That our Bingo Players Remix earned so much love
CRLV: Favourite drink to have on stage?
L: On stage we drink beer or coke. After the show we like to drink Absolute Vodka with Redbull. Before and during the gig we like to stay sober. We love to have stage fright, cause during our sets it turns into a state of trance. It's a great flush.
D: true we don't need alcohol or drugs to perform good. But after the gig I prefer Vodka!
Da: I agree with both.
CRLV: Who are your producers/djs to watch out for in 2013?
L: Okay here everyone has his own opinion. For me its TWR72, Ntology, Sovnger, Karl M and FloFilz.
D: Pilo and Etnik
Da: Pig & Dan
CRLV: If you could choose one artist to work with, who would it be?
L: Attaque or TWR72
D: Koen Groeneveld!!!
Da: Dubfire
CRLV: You mentioned that you recently worked with Tuff Em Up, what's next?
L: No idea, there are too many great labels. We are currently working on our 3rd EP and plan a collab with a known DJ, but we keep it as a secret for the moment.
CRLV: Pleasure talking to you, i've been listening to the mix nonstop, big big love!
L: Thanks, anytime!
